Threadripper 2970wx vs Ryzen 9 3800X Specifications Comparison

Threadripper 2970wx vs Ryzen 9 3800X Specifications Comparison

While we wait in excitement for the release of the next gen Ryzen 2 CPUs, we compare the Threadripper 2970wx vs Ryzen 9 3800X based on the information that we have.

The perfect graphics performance is always what would provide you access to the best options in the realm of your tasks as part of your business. However, there are several areas that you would need to focus on, and it will be dependent upon the exact profession you are in. Right from the high-end special effects like those in movies to other simplistic options like freelancer photography, content creation, and a wide range of options – there are several areas we would want to cover.

It is this middle area that needs to go for the budget-friendly options. The two most powerful options that would need attention would include  AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX and Ryzen 9 3800X. We will compare the two capable processors in more exquisite detail and explore the features that they offer you.

Ryzen Threadripper 2970 WX

The Ryzen Threadripper 2970X is one of the elite consumer range of processors and belongs to the Threadripper family of four processors designed for the specific requirements of the budget-friendly processors.

What makes it a great and formidable option is the number of cores, threads, and the affordable price point that it comes with. In essence, it should be an excellent option for every one of your needs in an efficient functionality and an adequate processing power coupled into one. Designed with 24 cores and 48 threads, it should be one of the best choices you can go with for all your requirements in multi-threaded applications. This should be one of the excellent options for working with highly resource hungry applications like video rendering and encoding requirements you may have.

Do note that it is not something specifically designed for those day to day applications, and more specifically – it may not work well with the older application versions that can only work optimally with a single core and high clock frequency. The processors come with a clock speed of 3 GHz. The chip comes from the 12 nm Zen+ architecture and boasts of the high-end Precision Boost 2 and Extended Frequency Range 2. And then, it also comes with a Dynamic Local Mode for an enhanced exciting option.

While the Precision Boost and Extended Frequency Range are quite self-explanatory and have been observed to be effective in most of the previous options, a Dynamic Local Mode is an excellent option that eases the switching between the creative and game modes. Hitherto the need for manual switching between the two methods was a little cumbersome; the Dynamic Local Mode can be an excellent option that will allow the automatic switching between the modes based on the exact system requirements. And we found it doing it effectively without affecting the performance levels.

Performance wise,  this is an excellent option you would want to work with. Of course, it comes with an eight less number of cores; it effectively does work. The improved compatibility between multiple applications and a new BIOS are a few excellent features that should make it an excellent choice for most of the needs. The chip has been working at par or better than the close competitors like Intel Core i9-7980XE and Core i9-7960X.

Ryzen 9 3800X

The Ryzen 9 3800X is yet to be launched, and that is precisely what would make everything we will be discussing here to be taken with a pinch of salt. At least until the processor is launched. However, the Ryzen 3000 series processors have been listed on several websites indicating a launch quite soon. The worthy names that are expected to be available in the Ryzen 3000 series include Ryzen 9 3800X, Ryzen 7 3700X, and Ryzen 5 3600X. The specifications, as having been outlined, are quite impressive enough on almost all major counts.

The Ryzen 9 3800X has been listed on the sites as having 32 threads. That should be indicative of the fact that the chipset does come with 16 cores. The clock speeds are stated to be 3.9 GHz and a turbo speed of 4.7 GHz.

The Comparison chart for Threadripper 2970wx vs Ryzen 9 3800X

Comparing the two competing chipsets should ideally de a difficult task – at least as of now, because the Ryzen 9 3800X has not yet been launched and whatever specifications we will be comparing will be based on the speculated features available on several websites.

So, which one should you go with?

It should be too early to make a comparison between the two chipsets as of now as the processor has not yet been made available. You would need to wait until the end of the year to get a clear understanding.

In any case, as long as running the latest games is concerned – you would find the Ryzen 9 3800X working efficiently than the Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX. However, it does come with eight more cores than the Ryzen 9 3800X. The processors do not belong to the same family and comparing them based on the clock speeds may not be a great idea. However, Ryzen 9 3800X is faster by 0.9 GHz. However, that should not necessarily be indicative of any performance improvements.

The Concluding Thoughts

Those were a few comparisons between the two capable Ryzen Threadripper 2900WX and Ryzen 3800X. However, the features as outlined in this compilation would not be complete as the Ryzen 3000 series processor will be released in the later part of the year. We will be updating the post later as soon as the processor is quickly released. Until then, do keep speculating.
