CPUAMD Ryzen 5 2400G vs Ryzen 5 3600G Specifications Comparison May 5, 201912993 views0Share By IG ShareExcited about AMD’s new 3000 series CPUs? Wondering whether to buy an existing model or wait for the upgrade? If yes, then you are on the right spot. In this article, we are trying to compare AMD Ryzen 5 2400G vs Ryzen 5 3600G which is at the time of writing this, a ‘mythical beast.’Note: If you buy something from our links, we might earn a commission. See our disclosure statement. The AMD Ryzen 5 series, however, is here to stay, and the improvements are indeed interesting enough. So, how about comparing the two exciting options among the Ryzen 5 3600G and Ryzen 5 2400G? Well, the former is not yet launched, and it may take a while before we can find better information on it. However, is it worth to upgrade to the Ryzen 5 3600G? Let us check out.The AMD Ryzen 5 2400GCheck on AmazonThe Ryzen 5 2400G is a quad-core mid-range desktop processor. It is an excellent option for programmers and casual gaming. The processor was launched in February 2018 and has been touted as one of the few 14nm desktop CPUs with built-in Vega 11 GPU. The processor also packs in a host of other features like SenseMI Technology, mobile XFR, Precision Boost 2, and Vega 11 graphics. The 2400G Ryzen DieOn the GPU side, you have access to a full set of 11 compute units. The TDP value of the processor reads 65 Watts, and that should be one of the best options for a quite and cool home entertainment PC. The maximum supported memory frequency will read 2933 MHz, and the processor will support DDR4 memory. The Ryzen 5 2400G will come with a base frequency of 3.6 GHz and a boost frequency of 3.9 GHz.Do note that DDR4 2933 MT per second is only supported on motherboards with at minimum six PCB layers, otherwise it defaults to 2667 MT/s (four-layer boards). There is an option for overclocking as well. It is one of the fastest Raven Ridge APU and has all the GPU cores clocking at 1250 MHz. The unlocked multiplier option should make it an excellent choice for an enhanced overclocking through traditional means. It offers turbo speeds of 3,900 MHz (1 core), and 3,750 MHz for all 4 cores. The processor has packed in all the hallmark requirements that you would expect from a modern desktop processor.Boosting the clock speeds on the Ryzen 5 2400G should be simple and comfortable with the Ryzen master app on Windows. Of course, you can make use of other traditional methods to boost the clock speed tweaking the BIOS (EFI) settings. In essence, if you are building a PC with a considerably tighter budget, the powerful Vega 11 graphics unit that comes equipped with the processor can be an excellent option that provides you a good mid-range GPU with playable graphical experience. The plus points that would go in favor of the Ryzen 5 2400G would include the inexpensive price tag, excellent compatibility with the motherboards belonging to the AM4 socket and good gaming performance. However, the general computing experience may not be up to the mark when compared with the likes of a 2600x Ryzen 5 CPU.The Spec Sheet:FeaturesDescriptionNumber of cores4 (Model 1, Family 23)Number of threads8 (1 Uniprocessor)Base frequency3.6 GHzBoost frequency3.9 GHz3,900 MHz (1 core), and 3,750 MHz (4 cores)Unlocked multiplierYesSimultaneous multithreadingYesTDP65 WIntegrated GraphicsVega 11Execution Units – 11 Unified Shaders – 704 Burst Frequency : 1,250 MHz Output DisplayPort, HDMIStandards:DirectX 12OpenGL 4.6OpenCL 2.2Vulkan 1.1CPU Info14 nm CMOS process4,950,000,000 transistors209.78 mm² die sizeCode name: Raven RidgeMax Memory – 64 GBClock Multiplier : 36The AMD Ryzen 5 3600GBelonging to the new AMD Ryzen 3000 series of processors, the Ryzen 5 3600G will be made available in the third quarter of 2019. The processor is expected to be built on a 7nm process, in contrast to the 14nm manufacturing process on the 2000 series of the Ryzen 5 2400G. The architecture used in the manufacture of this processor is Zen 2 as compared to the Zen+ architecture found on the Ryzen 5 2400G.Due to the 7nm node process optimizations, the Ryzen 5 series of the processors in the 3000 series comes equipped with better clock speed and a better frequency. The older Ryzen 5 2600 and 2600X is expected to be upgraded to the new Ryzen 5 3600 and 3600X as well. And also, the best fastest APU so far, the Ryzen 5 2400G will be upgraded to Ryzen 5 3600G. We still do not know whether AMD is going to release a 3400G successor at this point in time. The upgrade will be in the form of the number of cores and threads, to begin with. In sharp contrast to the Ryzen 5 2400G, the new 3600G will feature eight cores and 16 threads. The Ryzen 5 3600G is stated to be the first desktop APU from AMD to be offering eight cores. The processor will also come with 20 CU Navi 12 GPU die.The TDP rating will be higher than the one on the Ryzen 5 2400G. Instead of 65 W, you will find a rating of 95 W.The basic specifications read as follows –FeaturesDescriptionNumber of cores8Number of threads16Base frequency3.2 GHzBoost frequency4.0 GHzUnlocked multiplierYesSimultaneous multithreadingYesTDP95 WIntegrated Graphics20 CU NaviNumber of compute units11The Ryzen 5 3600G is indeed expected to be a beast in terms of performance. The CPU and GPU performance is expected to be around 10 – 15 percent faster than the older Ryzen 5 2400G processor.Which one should you go with?Well, that would be a speculative query in a higher probability. The Ryzen 5 3600G has not yet been launched. AMD has announced that the processor will see the light of the day later in the third quarter of 2019.Based on the specifications currently available, it appears to be a big boost in terms of performance. However, specifications remain just that before a product is actually launched. The official website has not been providing any updates about the new Ryzen 5 3000 series processors as yet. From that perspective, you may need to wait to arrive at the comprehensive comparison between the two products. However, we would hasten to add that – if the specifications indeed come into reality, the Ryzen 5 3600G should be a power performer. We would consider it the best upgrade you can have for your Ryzen 5 2400G.The Concluding ThoughtsThe Ryzen 5 3600G has not yet launched. It may be a while before it hits the markets so that we can have a very subjective comparison – either in terms of specifications or performance – between the Ryzen 5 2400G and Ryzen 5 3600G. The features on paper hint at the fact that it would be an excellent option to wait for the new Ryzen 5 3600G as of now if your project can wait for a few more months. The review and comparison between the Ryzen 5 2400G vs Ryzen 5 3600G as on this post remains incomplete as the processor is yet to be made available. We promise to provide an update as soon as the new Ryzen 5 processor in the 3000 series is launched as an upgrade to the Ryzen 5 2400G. Until that happens, let us keep speculating and keep waiting.More reading on AMD Ryzen:AMD Threadripper 2990wx vs AMD Ryzen 9 3850XAMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs 2700XX570 vs x470 AMD Ryzen 2 3000 Series ChipsetAMD Ryzen 3 2200G vs AMD Ryzen 3 3300 Affiliate Disclosure: Faceofit.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program.
