More than phones, you need to carefully select the processors or SoCs that support the DSDV option. We will check out the various possibilities that offer support for such functionality. Also, we will even attempt in understanding what Dual VoLTE is and how effective it can be.
Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Huawei have released their SoCs that support dual SIM and dual Volte. Now above 90 percent of the smartphones are dual-SIM but not all support dual-Volte. So what is the advantage of having a dual-Volte smartphone? The dual SIM dual Volte will allow you to keep HD calls active on both the SIM cards. Thus you can choose to run data or call on both the 4G LTE Volte enabled SIM cards concurrently.

Only one of them will operate at a time, and the network on the other SIM will fallback to 2G or 3G till you disconnect the active call. The next generation SoCs are now coming with dual Volte support. So without wasting any much time let’s find out which are the SoC and phones which are future proof.
As of today, there are not many SoCs that have resolved the issue of dual Volte. But very soon all SoCs from budget range to flagship chips will come with dual Volte support. So let’s discuss the ones that are already in the game.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 is a midrange SoC that comes with dual Volte support. It packs high-end features that make it the best 600-tier SoC to date. It is an octa-core processor comprised of 8 x Kryo 260 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz. The processor is coupled with Adreno 512. As far as the camera is concerned, this chip supports up to 16 MP dual camera and up to 24 MP single camera.
It supports up to 4K UltraHD capture at 30 fps and up to 1080p videos at 120 fps and this SoC support up to Full HD 2560×1200 display. It comes with X12 LTE modem that delivers peak download speed of 600 Mbps and upload speed of 150 Mbps.
The best part is that it comes with dual Volte support means you can enjoy calls and data on both the 4G LTE sim cards. SD 660 supports Bluetooth 5 that is twice as fast as Bluetooth 4.2 and has better coverage. For fast charging, SD 660 supports QC4.0 technology. All this make this chip the best for the mid-range smartphones to date.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 is the best SoC that Qualcomm has ever made. It is powering most of the Android flagship phones of 2018. It packs an octa-core CPU consisting of 8 x Kryo 385 CPU and Adreno 630 GPU. It is built on the 10 nm fabrication process. SD 845 packs all advanced features including an immersive XR experience, dual Volte, AI and many more.
It features the X20 LTE modem that delivers peak download and upload speed of 1.2 Gbps and 150 Mbps respectively. This SoC supports dual SIM dual Volte. Now, coming onto the camera, a lot has been improved over the SD835. SD845 comes with a 14-bit image signal processing with camera support up to 16 MP HFR single camera at 60 fps and 32 MP single camera at 30 fps. It also supports 16 MP dual camera at 30 fps. Snapdragon 845 supports Bluetooth 5.0 and quick charge 4/4+ for faster and efficient charging.
MediaTek Helio P23 is designed for supreme camera quality and support dual 4G LTE SIM with dual Volte. This SoC is ideal for mid-range smartphones. It is a quad-core SoC consisting of eight ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz. The processor is coupled with ARM Mali-G71 MP2 GPU. This processor supports up to 6 GB LPDDR4X RAM clocked at 1500 MHz. Its low power design delivers a good battery backup even with dual Volte mode.
The Helio P23 supports up to dual 13 MP camera and up to 24 MP single camera. You can capture videos at a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It is built on 16 nm FinFET process. It features the MediaTek’s latest generation 4G LTE WorldMode modem that not only saves power but also offers a download speeds up to 300 Mb/s and upload speed up to 150 Mb/s.
MediaTek Helio P30 is more advanced and powerful than the Helio P23. It takes the dual camera experience to the next level. It packs 8 x ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz integrated with ARM Mali-G71 MP2 GPU clocked at 950 MHz. It supports maximum display resolution up to 2160 x 1080 pixels that makes it ready for bezel-less displays that have an aspect ratio of 18:9. This MediaTek chip supports up to 6 GB LPDDR4X RAM at 1600 MHz.
Though it supports dual SIM dual Volte still its low power design is not too harsh on your smartphone battery. As this SoC is more focused on the camera phones, so it features dual camera ISP that supports up to 16 MP dual camera and up to 25 MP single camera. You can capture videos at a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels at 30 fps.
MediaTek MT6739 is the newly launched chip that comes with dual SIM dual Volte support. It is cost effective yet a powerful SoC that has the potential to handle the beautiful, large bezel-less displays that are gaining traction in the smartphones market these days. It features a WorldMode LTE modem that makes it future ready. It beholds the power of a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz. It uses IMG GE8100 GPU clocked at 570 MHz.
It supports 18:9 display with a maximum resolution of 1440 x 720. It is going to be the cheapest SoC that supports dual 4G LTE Volte and 18:9 display. As far as camera capabilities of this smartphone are concerned, it supports up to 13 MP single camera, while there is no information about the dual camera support. As of now, there are no smartphones that are equipped with MediaTek MT6739 SoC. But soon you might see some budget smartphones packed with this MediaTek chip.
Huawei Kirin 970 is the flagship SoC that comes with AI, dual Volte and many more future ready features. It runs on a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU). It is a quad-core CPU comprised of 4 x A73 cores clocked at 2.36 GHz and 4x A53 cores clocked at 1.84 GHz. It features ARM Mali-G72 MP12 GPU clocked at 746 MHz. Kirin 970 integrated LTE cat 18 modems provides up to 1200 Mbps download, and 150 Mbps upload speed
This SoC is built on the 10nm fabrication process with 5.5 billion transistors; the battery life is further prolonged. Moreover, it comes with the dual ISP for dual camera support. As per Huawei, the Kirin 970 is 20% more powerful and 50% more power efficient than its predecessor Kirin 960.
As can be understood based on the name itself, the dual SIM dual VoLTE is the functionality is the one where you will be able to experience the 4G VoLTE connectivity on both your SIM cards simultaneously.
This can be explained with an example. Assume you have two 4G SIM cards where one of them offer a 4G only service. In such a case, when you switch to the data network on the non-4G only SIM, the interface on the 4G only SIM vanishes. Ideally, most of the phones support 4G connections on any one of the two SIM cards, and not on the two cards simultaneously.
This is where Dual SIM Dual VoLTE tends to be of practical use. If you have a phone that supports the technology, you will find that you will be able to use the 4G connectivity on both the SIM cards. This will mean even when you switch to any one of the data networks, you will continue to get the VoLTE services on the other SIM even without the Internet.

The trend of offering the dual VoLTE connectivity has been in vogue only recently. This need was necessitated after the launch of 4G only services by telecom operators. A good example is Reliance Jio in India which is a 4G-only network and does not offer any 3G or 2G connectivity.
Some of the modern breeds of phones that have begun launching the Dual VoLTE functionality can be summed up as Honor View 10, Zenfone Max Pro M1, Oppo F7, and Realme 1 to name a few. Please note that the dual VoLTE is a functionality that the SoC or the processor inside your phone should support.
Moreover, just because the SoC supports the functionality should not necessarily mean that the feature will be made available on a phone that uses the particular chipset. The OEM may go against the plan and choose not to provide the functionality on its devices.
The recently launched chipsets support the functionality. The SoCs being launched in 2019 and later are expected to come with the functionality to provide the Dual SIM Dual VoLTE feature. Here is the list of the SoCs that support the dual-VoLTE feature.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 is one of the first options to support dual SIM dual VoLTE. While the chipset comes with a multitude of features one of the most important being LTE Broadcast, LTE multimode dual SIM and VoLTE with HD Voice and SRVCC.

The first phone launched in 2017 end comes with the dual Volte support is Huawei’s Honor V10. It features a 5.99-inch LTPS IPS LCD with 78.6% screen to body ratio. The display has a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels at 403 PPI density. It runs on Android 8.0 Oreo. Despite being a large display phone, it weighs 172 kg and can be operated with just one hand. The front is made of glass and read side is aluminum that looks premium and reliable.
It is equipped with HiSilicon Kirin 970 Octa-core (4×2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) processor that supports dual Volte. For graphics and animations, it has Mali-G72 MP12 GPU unit. Honor V10 comes in two RAM options 4 GB and 6 GB and two internal storage options 64 GB and 128 GB.
On the read side of the phone, you get a dual camera with 6 MP (f/1.8) + 20 MP sensors with 2x optical zoom. On the front side, it comes equipped with a 13 MP f/2.0 selfie camera. A fingerprint scanner is mounted on the rear side. Plus, you get the fast charging and data transfers with the Type-C 1.0 reversible connector. It is powered by a 3750 mAh battery that gives decent backup all day long.
After iPhone X success, the notch is coming to the Android smartphones. This year we have seen a lot of Android smartphones with the notched display. Asus Zenfone 5Z is one such smartphone that has a large 6.2-inch notched display IPS LCD with 1080 x 2246 pixels resolution at 402 PPI density. It has a fantastic screen to bod ratio of 83.6 percent.
Asus Zenfone 5Z is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship processor of 2018 Snapdragon 845. The Snapdragon 845 octa-core (4×2.7 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4×1.7 GHz Kryo 385 Silver) processor is coupled with Adreno 630 GPU. Coming to the camera, it has dual camera setup on the rear side with 12 MP and 8 MP sensors dual-LED flash. On the front end, in the notch area, you get 8 MP camera capable of capturing videos at 1080p. It runs on Android 8.0 Oreo and gets power from a non-removable 3300 mAh battery.
Huawei has recently unveiled three smartphones, the P20 lite, P20, and P20 Pro. The P20 Pro is powered by Hisilicon Kirin 970 Octa-core (4×2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) processor. It comes with Mali-G72 MP12 GPU. The processor is coupled with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB internal storage capacity. The phones houses a massive 6.1 inches notched display with 1080 x 2240 pixels resolution. The P20 Pro has an 82 percent screen to body ratio.
But the most interesting phone about this phone is the triple camera setup on the rear side that gives this phone the capability of 3x optical zoom. The triple camera has sensors 40 MP (f/1.8, 27 mm, 1/1.7″, OIS) + 20 MP (f/1.6, 27 mm) + 8 MP (f/2.4, 80 mm). This phones also take care of your selfies with its 24 MP camera on the front side — a 4000 mAh non-removable battery powers it.
Huawei P20 is the bit more practical when it comes to handling the phone. The P20 features a 5.8 inches LTPS IPS LCD with the notch on the front side just like the iPhone X. The phone has a screen to body ratio of around 80% that adds more beauty to the phone. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo OS and powered by the Kirin 970 octa-core processor. The 4 GB of RAM, when coupled with the kirin 970, makes it easy to multitask and play massive games on the phone.
For storage, it has got 128 GB internal memory, but you can’t add micro SD card to expand the memory further. Unlike the P20 Pro, the P20 features a dual camera with 12 MP and 20 MP sensors with 2 x lossless optical zoom. On the front side, the P20 has the same 24 MP camera just like the P20 Pro. The phone comes with a 3.1 Type-C port and a fingerprint scanner mounted on the rear side. It supports fast charging and packs 3400 mAh non-removable battery.
Oppo R11 doesn’t have a notch or a bezel-less display just like most of the new phones in the market still looks stylish. It features a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution with 401 PPI density. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor and Adreno 512 GPU. It is available in two variants one with 4 GB RAM 64 GB internal and another one with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage capacity.
It features the dual camera on the rear side having 16 MP and 20 MP sensors. On the front side, this phone features a 20 MP camera. As most of the Oppo phones, the Oppo R11 camera captures excellent, fantastic photos and selfies. This phone doesn’t have a type-C port and runs on ColorOS 3.1 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It has a 3000 mAh battery and supports fast charging. It feels quite lightweight as it weighs 150 grams.
