Tech PostsHow to Import Export Tweets to Microsoft Excel February 4, 201613081 views2Share By IG ShareSocial Networking is becoming more and more important as a tool for corporations to track a brand’s perception among users. Machine Learning and predictive analytics of a product is an important dimension and social media is a good source to capture and analyze these unstructured datasets. Now, in order to better understand user tweets for specific #hastags, you would need some data acquisition techniques to extract the data. The flat data can then be further developed for data modeling and reporting purposes. On similar lines, in this post, we are going to be focussing on #Twitter as a social data source. Let’s talk about how to import export tweets to Microsoft excel.Tools to Import Export Tweets to Microsoft ExcelImport Export Tweets to Microsoft ExcelYou can now download your Twitter archive by going to your account settings https://twitter.com/settings/account and you need to scroll down to the bottom and click on the “Request your archive” button.Note: If you buy something from our links, we might earn a commission. See our disclosure statement. This only allows you to download your own tweets, and not anyone else’s. Also, it is not in your desired format, i.e. PDF, CSV or xlsx (Excel spreadsheets). If you are a programmer, then you can try out the Twitter’s API which only allows you to download the last 3,200 tweets. However, this can extract data from any twitter account without restrictions. If you want to download more than 3200 tweets, then it would have to be a paid service. There are several 3rd party websites and services which will allow you to download filtered tweets (based on your interest) in your desired format. There are trial options as well, which allows previewing before buying your way in.There are many providers and the ones that I have tried have been listed below. All the ones that I have outlined here have been worked with and checked. These are as follows:Docteur Tweety: They offer you to download your tweets in Excel, Calc or Web file formats.Export Tweet: You can download public tweets of any user. ExportTweet also provides an option to setup the scheduler to download user tweets in a selective interval.Twdocs: It lets you save Twitter tweets, favorites, mentions, followers, friends, direct messages and search results as PDF, DOC, XML, CSV, TXT, XLS or HTML files. The free service only allows you to save the last 10 elements from twitter list of your choice.Another recommended tool to export tweets is by using a service from Twlets. Twlets allows you to download 3200 tweets or your follower list using an easy to use interface. Here is the step by step approach to export tweets to Excel using Twlets:Step 1: Authorize your Twitter account from the Twlets website.Step 2: Click on “Authorize” to confirm your Twitter identity.Step 3; Select the number of tweets to download or your follower list. Here are the screenshots for the steps mentioned above: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 We tried out the tool and imported 1000 rows for the hashtag #Android and created a data model in Excel. We published the data-model on PowerBI and here are the results:There are also other service providers on the list like “birdsonganalytics” & “followthehashtag“, all of which will provide similar functionality.Hopefully, this post points you in the right direction to get you started. We would be updating this post from time to time with better options to export tweets from twitter to Excel.
