Now let’s start with the camera specs. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 has a dual rear camera with 12 MP + 5 MP sensors on the back side, and its 16 GB RAM model gets an upgraded 16 MP + 5 MP camera on the rear side, while the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes in two variants both having same 12 MP + 5 MP camera.

The front camera on the Asus Zenfone Pro Max M1 is of 8 MP in base models and 16 MP with LED flash in the 6 GB RAM model. Here Redmi Note 5 Pro wins with a whopping 20 MP camera. These are the on-paper specs of the camera, now let’s compare them one on one in the real world.

When we talk about the daylight pictures of the rear camera of both the phones, both the phones blur the background very well, while the only difference is in color and detailing of the front object that you are focusing on. Redmi Note 5 Pro seems to do a better job here; the colors look a bit more natural and saturated. But for the landscape shots, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 gives good competition to the Xiaomi Note 5 Pro regarding colors and details of the image.

Now talking about the closer shots, the color reproduction and detailing on both the phones are almost similar. At some times the colors on the Redmi Note 5 Pro looks a bit undersaturated. The tone on the Redmi Note 5 Pro is a bit warmer. But overall both the phones do a pretty good job with the closer images and won’t leave you disappointed at this price.

When it comes to low light pictures, this is the area where the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 loses to the Redmi Note 5 Pro. There are a lot of noise and details are washed out in the low light pictures taken by the Pro M1 camera. Regarding low-light conditions, we feel that Redmi Note 5 Pro is the better choice here.

The video recording on the Redmi Note 5 Pro is more stable thanks to Electronic image Stabilization in the camera when taken at 1080p resolution. Though the colors and sharpness in the video captured by the Asus Pro M1 are quite good still with the AI features the Redmi Note 5 is the better one here. Asus has also promised to update it with the AI features so we will update this again.

Moving to the front camera, this where the Redmi Note 5 Pro wins over again. The selfies on the Redmi Note 5 Pro are more sharp, bright and detailed as compared to the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. Also, the beautification algorithm works better in the Redmi Note 5 Pro and captures beautiful pictures.

Both the phones are capable of recording 1080p videos from the front camera. During our testing, we find that the noise in the audio was a bit more in Redmi Note 5 Pro as compared to the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1. It is a mic optimization, but it also counts with the camera quality when it comes to video recording. But the video quality is far better in the Redmi Note 5 Pro thanks to the 20 MP camera on the front. Also, the 6 GB RAM model of the Asus Pro M1 works better than the 8 MP camera front camera model and gives good competition to the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

Asus has done an excellent job with the rear camera in daylight shots. But for better selfie and video calling experience, Redmi Note 5 Pro is the one you should go for. Even in the Low-light conditions, Redmi Note 5 Pro has no competition at this price range. Overall, Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 has a good camera, but Redmi Note 5 Pro is a winner here.

Rest there is not much difference in both the phones. Both got the same processor snapdragon 636 with same RAM variants and storage options. But the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 has got a bigger 5000 mAh battery and runs on latest Android 8.1 Oreo OS. Rest of the specifications you find out in the table shown above.
