How to Resolve and Fix Outlook 2016 Folder Navigation Pane Disappearance

One of the most frequently encountered issues in Microsoft Outlook 2016 is the disappearance of the Folder & Navigation panes. The Internet is flooded with similar queries and users are looking for a fix. There are no set patterns and a user can encounter this anytime, especially during launching the application. Sometimes if you forcibly quit Outlook though a hard boot or killing Outlook.exe from the task manager reproduces the problem. The good news is that there is a solution to this problem and it’s easy to fix. In this post, I am going to talk about how to fix Outlook 2016 folder navigation pane disappearance issues.

Steps to Fix Outlook 2016 Folder Navigation Pane Disappearance Issues

Step 1: Close the Outlook Application if already open.

Step 2: Go-To-Start and type “Outlook.exe /resetnavpane” or copy paste it along with the spaces.

If the issue still persists, then try the following alternate command:

Step 3: Go-to-Start and type or copy paste “Outlook /cleanviews”

Alternatively, you can type or copy paste the commands in the run Window. Hold the Windows Key and Press R. Type the commands mentioned above to resolve the issue.

Steps to Reset Navigation Pane from the Outlook user interface menu

If you want to reset the navigation pane, click on View>Reset View as given in the following screenshot.

Note: If you have not made any changes to the default settings, the “Reset View” menu option would be greyed out!

If you want to Apply the view settings to all the folder and subfolders, you need to select “Change View” > “Apply Current View to Other Mail Folders” as given in the following screenshot:

Office 2016 Patch Update to fix Outlook 2016 folder navigation pane disappearance issues

Microsoft releases all the latest services packs for Office applications. You can find the complete list from the Office website. The August 2016 update for Outlook has supposedly resolved this issue. You can find the August 2016 update details here.
