iPhone X has already been a massive hit in the market. But now we got a stable rival, the Samsung Galaxy S9. No doubt, both the phones are great whether it comes to performance, durability or style. But we are here to find out which one would be the better option for you.

Both the smartphones features an eye-catching design. The Samsung Galaxy S9 has an ultra-thin-bezel less design with a curved display. While the iPhone X brought up a new concept of a notched screen (Essential Phone really) that gives it a unique look. The iPhone X frame has ultra-thin bezels, and the display fills the entire structure. Both are beautiful, looks luxurious and feels expensive as they are.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and iPhone X both come with a 5.8-inch display. The S9 comes with Super AMOLED with 1440 x 2960 pixels resolution at 570 PPI. The screen to body ratio of the S9 is 83.6 percent. On the other hand, the iPhone X also features an OLED display with 1125 x 2436 pixels resolution at 458 PPI. The iPhone X has a nearly 83 percent screen to body ratio, even though the screen of iPhone X is a bit lower in PPI but looks super crisp in person. The colors on both the displays are spectacular and True to life. But the S9 screen is slightly brighter and contrasty than the iPhone X.

Apple iPhone X is powered by Apple A11 Bionic chip which is a hexa-core 2.39 GHz SoC composed of two powerful cores named Monsoon and four power-efficient cores named Mistral. The CPU is integrated with Apple’s in-house three-core GPU. It packs 3 GB of RAM and offers two internal storage variants, 64 GB and 256 GB, at least here in India.

The S9 comes with Snapdragon 845 SoC which is Qualcomm’s best SoC till date. In the EMEA countries, you get the equivalent Exynos 9810 and SD 845 in China and the USA version. Galaxy S9 is equipped with 4 GB of RAM and three storage options to choose, 64/128/256 GB. It might look like that S9 is a better option here, but when you compare them in a speed test, both perform equally better than its predecessors.

Coming to the camera, the S9 features a 12 MP dual Pixel camera on the rear side and 8 MP camera on the back side. We were expecting a second camera on the rear side, but for that, you have to go for the S9 Plus. The iPhone X packs a dual 12 MP + 12 MP camera on the rear side. On the front side, you get a 7 MP camera in the notch section. The iPhone X gives you the advantage of blur depth of field effect (Bookeh!) like a DSLR camera.

On comparing the front camera side by side, the iPhone X captures more realistic selfies and has a somewhat better visualization of colors that look natural. Also, the slow-motion video recording felt more stable and optimized as compared to the Samsung Galaxy S9. Overall, Samsung S9 has an excellent camera no doubt but loses the battle with the iPhone X in enhancements.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is IP68 certified, and iPhone X is IP67 certified. For those who don’t about the IP67 and IP68. The IP67 certification means that the device is dust and waterproof up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. The IP68 certified device is also dust and waterproof up to 1.5 meter for 30 minutes.

Apple iPhone X is powered by 2710 mAh battery, and a 3000 mAh battery powers the Galaxy S9 (3500 mAH for the S+). In our test, we found that initially with the same load on both the phones, the battery reduces at the same rate on both the phones. But after 50%, Samsung Galaxy S9 battery decreases at a slower pace than the iPhone X. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S9 battery will give you 10 percent more battery backup over the iPhone X.

Both phones are fantastic whether it comes to performance or looks. Personally, I find the iPhone X to be more attractive and appealing to the eyes. You might have a different opinion about the design, and it is up to you since it is subjective. Both the phones can withstand the usual shocks and drops, but we recommend you to use a case. It is just the brand value and design that will help users to decide between the two.

To Conclude

If you are comfortable with iOS and the ecosystem, go with iPhone X. To get the taste of Android, Samsung Galaxy S9 is a great option. If I have to choose one amongst the two, I will choose the iPhone X over the S9, the reason being the looks, performance, camera and the brand value.
