As a prerequisite, all users of Mi phones needs to have (Or create) a Mi account in order to activate the phone, in addition to your google account. This user has also been tagged automatically with your Mi Cloud account. This enables you to automatically store your phone contacts, photos, messages etc on the cloud. When you activate your Mi phone, all photos, contacts, and messages are stored by default on the Mi Cloud. While 5 GB is more than enough for storing contacts and messages, it might not be true for photos. We recommend switching off the photos sync feature from your phone right away. In order to do this, follow the steps mentioned below: Step 1: Go to settings>Mi Account (Under Accounts) Step 2: Tap on Mi Cloud Icon Step 3: Type in your Mi Account Password if prompted with a captcha code. See screenshot Step 4: Tap on Gallery and toggle the option which says “Backup Automatically” This should disable other options below it. Here is the Step by Step screenshots below: Tap on Mi Cloud Select Gallery Sign In with your Mi Account Toggle the First Option to Off This will stop uploading your photos to the Mi Cloud and your storage issues should be sorted. Alternatives to Mi Cloud for Cloud-based photo Storage We strongly recommend you to install the new Google photos app and enable it to upload your photos instead. If you restrict your photo size to 16 MP (MegaPixels) and Videos of up to 1080p then Google will offer you with unlimited storage. Now, that is an unbeatable offer with little or no competition at all. Deleting your Mi-Account At the moment, there are no options from the Web or from your phone to delete your existing Mi Account. You can sign out, or disconnect your existing services that you have subscribed to. To do this, you can go to https://account.xiaomi.com and change your settings and that’s about it.
