Therefore, the market now provides a wide range of performance-efficient gaming notebooks built on the latest Ryzen 9 platforms. Note: If you buy something from our links, we might earn a commission. See our disclosure statement. Related: List of the Best Laptops with Ryzen 9 6900HS All through 2021, the top Ryzen 9 laptops were based on the Zen3 Ryzen 5000 Cezanne series of mobile processors. The most outstanding powerful models have the Ryzen 9 5900HX, whereas the highly efficient Ryzen 9 5980HS and 5900HS processors are equipped in a few portable formats. It is known that a Ryzen 9 5980HX CPU option was too part of the Cezanne family. However, it was never actually incorporated into authentic products. This is changing from early-2022 with AMD presenting the Zen3+ Ryzen 6000 Rembrandt series of mobile processors and the Ryzen 9 6900HX and 6980HX variation presented as the latest top of the stack, as well as prospective HS more-efficient options (Ryzen 9 6980HS and Ryzen 9 6900HS – going to updated). As of now, there are few details available on the Ryzen 6000 hardware. This article would be updated with its details when it’s out. However, the section below discusses the specifics you must expect with the Rembrandt platform in the 2022 laptops. This article highlights the performance and specs of such Ryzen 9 platforms. Also, it provides an in-depth list of all the laptops accessible on this kind of hardware. Altogether, there are typically two types of AMD Ryzen 9 equipped laptops. The first type includes those dependent on the full-power H and HX processors (like 6900HX, 5900HX, 4900H), with a TDP of 45+W design. The second types include those laptops that depend on lighter & thinner form factor with the HS subseries of Ryzen 9 mobile APUs (like 5900HS, 4900HS), with premium and efficient bins and a TDP of 35+W design. Indeed, all these laptops operate at different power settings. Moreover, the performance differs between each of them. Essentially, the performance is depended on the overall quality of every implementation, overall design, and thermal module. The article will not deeply converse benchmarks results. Still, it gives you a glimpse of what you must usually anticipate from the cutting-edge Ryzen 9 processors, with in-depth details on those previously mentioned reviews. Subsequently, the article familiarizes you with the in-depth lists of the accessible Ryzen 9 6900HX and Ryzen 9 5900HX/5900HS laptops. Also, it discusses those models which are launched in the previous years and equipped with Ryzen 9 4900H/4900HS hardware already available in stores. Firstly, the following table shows a specifications sheet of the Zen3+, Zen 3, and Zen 2 Ryzen 9 H and HS processors: Specifications Ryzen 9 6980HX Ryzen 9 6900HX Ryzen 9 6900HS Ryzen 9 5900HX Ryzen 9 5980HS Ryzen 9 5900HS Ryzen 9 4900H Ryzen 9 4900HS Build Process 6 nm 6 nm 6 nm 7 nm 7 nm 7 nm 7 nm 7 nm Generation Zen 3+ Zen 3+ Zen 3+ Zen 3 Zen 3 Zen 3 Zen 2 Zen 2 Cores/Threads 8/16 CPU Base Frequency 3.3 GHz 3.3 GHz 3.3 GHz 3.3 GHz 3.0 GHz 3.0 GHz 3.3 GHz 3.0 GHz CPU Max Turbo 5.0 GHz 4.9 GHz 4.9 GHz 4.6 GHz 4.8 GHz 4.6 GHz 4.4 GHz 4.3 GHz L3 Cache 20 MB 20 MB 20 MB 16 MB 16 MB 16 MB 8 MB 16 MB Memory Type DDR4-3200, DDR5-4800, LPDDR5-5200 DDR4-3200, LPDDR4X-4266 TDP 45+ W 45+ W 35+ W 45+W 35+ W 35+ W 45+ W 35+ W Graphics RDNA2 6nm Radeon Vega,12 EUs Enhanced 7 nm Radeon Vega, 8 CUs Graphics Speed Up to 2400 MHz Up to 2100 MHz Up to 2100 MHz Up to 2100 MHz Up to 1750 MHz Up to 1750 MHz The H and HX models operate at higher base clocks and higher power than the HS models. Except for these two aspects, they are identical in the same generation. It is important to note that dissimilarity between the 4000 and 5000 models may not seem perceptible, but it exists. This is because of the different IPC improvements and optimizations accessible with Zen3 cores, along with the additional amount of cache memory. Furthermore, the 5000-series APUs obtained more competent Vega 8 integrated graphics, but that doesn’t matter here. This is because all such Ryzen 9 notebooks are available with dedicated graphics that excel in GPU-heavy loads. For the 2021 Ryzen 6000, Rembrandt hardware is built on the advanced Zen3+ build process. It guarantees further enhancements in design, IPC, and extras like in PCIe gen4 storage (which for specific reason was abandoned from the Ryzen 5000 mobile platforms) and support for DDR5 and LPDDR5 RAM, among others. But, we are still on the lookout for the 8C/16T designs with the 6900HX processors, perhaps operating at higher clocks and implemented with RDNA2 graphics. The latter aspect must be significant on the Ryzen U platforms that are designed for ultraportable designs. However, they are less significant on the H/HX implementations included here. This is because the majority of these are about to be paired with some kind of dGPU anyway. Going through the previous CPUs updates, I expect a wider assortment of products completely based on GPU and AMD hardware this year. These products are expected to explore the AMD proprietary technologies like FreeSync or SmartShift etc. We have observed the implementation of SmartShift in the ROG G15 Advantage in 2021, the Ryzen 9 and RX 6800M configuration, the latest CPUs, and the RDNA2-based Radeon RX 7000 GPUs. Expectantly, AMD would achieve more SKUs that can present an outstanding value/performance proposal. From next-gen AMD hardware, we will find the Zen4 architecture implemented only into those laptops going to release in late 2022 or early 2023. This architecture will be implemented in those laptops with the Raphael Zen4 5 nm and AMD Phoenix platform launch. Hence, we can anticipate the Ryzen 6000 Zen3+ processor to drive most of the AMD notebooks of the 2022 lineup. The Ryzen 6000 models anticipated in 2022 We are looking for the significant thing, Ryzen 7 mainstream alternatives are too accessible for all these 9s, along with 8C/16T processors. However, these processors would run at slightly lower clocks. Considering that the Ryzen 9 configurations are usually expensive, I anticipate that majority of you would be fascinated by the mid-range Ryzen 7 models but we’ll discuss that in a separate article. Considerately, the Ryzen 9 platforms are also executed into higher-tier performance as well as gaming products. Moreover, these platforms are usually equipped with higher-specced configurations. Contrasting the Ryzen 4000 generation which was not extensively adopted and was usually available on lower-tier laptops having up to mid-range graphics (examples include the 2020 Zephyrus G15 and G14, HP Omen 15, Dell G5 Gaming, and Lenovo Legion 5). The Ryzen 5000 hardware is presently accessible in top-end designs with GPU up to RTX 3080 graphics (AMD RDNA2 dGPUs would be equipped in some future point), outstanding screens, hard-line builds, and the cutting-edge features available in 2021. Simultaneously, more affordable and mid-tier Ryzen 9 5000 designs are still accessible for people who have limited budgets. Concise performance insights and numbers: As of now, here are the performance ratings for the Ryzen 9 5980HS and5900HX mobile processors in contrast to the other options available. Note: The numbers mentioned in the below table are AMD numbers. The performance rating of Ryzen 9 6000 numbers will be updated when available. The table also highlights a few of our findings on real products found in stores. Firstly, the Cinebench loop mentions the tests of the CPU’s regular multi-thread performance. And here are some more tests: Specifications Ryzen 9 5900 HX (ROG Scar G733) Check on Amazon Ryzen 9 5900 HX (Zephyrus Duo) Check on Amazon Ryzen 9 5980HS (ROG Flow X13) Check on Amazon Ryzen 9 5900HS (Zephyrus GA503) Check on Amazon Ryzen 9 4900HS (Zephyrus GA401) Check on Amazon 3D Mark – Time Spy CPU 9759 9474 8811 9537 9099 3D Mark –Fire Strike Physics 24918 24678 22877 24554 21546 Blender –Classroom Scene, CPU 8m 24s 9m 28s 9m 28s 8m 19s 10m 56s Cinebench R20 CPU 5095 cb 5183 cb 4507 cb 5136 cb 4184 cb Cinebench R20 CPU Single Core 565 cb 564 cb 565 cb 572 cb 478 cb Geekbench 5 64-bit –Single-Core 1467 1507 1498 1477 1208 Geekbench 5 64-bit –Multi-Core 8296 8539 8119 7939 7822 X265 HD Benchmark 38.22 fps 27.29 fps 29.76 fps 28.11 fps 32.48 fps Those Ryzen 9 5000 HS APUs are extraordinary at a portion of the power needed by the 5900HX implementations. Considering all the above aspects, here are the lists of the announced or rumored portable 4900HS/5980HS/5900H models, along with the full-size Ryzen 9 5900HX/4900H options. Note that this article is not about an assortment of recommended best AMD Ryzen laptops. But it covers the lists of all the available models based on this explicit Ryzen hardware. It is up to you to choose the best one matching your requisites and budget. But this review will help you a lot with the selection. Note that these lists are being constantly updated with new entries when they are launched. Hence, if you find something that must be in here, and if not then please inform us about the same in the comments sections available at the end of the post. Portable laptops with AMD Ryzen 9 6980HS, 6900HS, 5900 HS 35W, or HX 45W hardware This section is dedicated to compact and lightweight designs. Few hardware is built on the efficient 35W Ryzen 9 HS platforms. The platform can be either the (2022) Ryzen 6980HS/6900HS Zen3+ updates, the (2021) Ryzen 5980HS/5900HS Zen3 hardware, or the previous 4900HS generation. Few of this portable hardware is also equipped with full-power Ryzen H45 specs. This is because the top-tier Ryzen 9 5980HS processor is yet restricted to the limited-edition Flow X13 Supernova. On the other hand, the 5900HS is only found on the 2021 ROG Zephyrus G14/G15. But this may alter in the future. Best AMD Ryzen 9 6000 Series Laptops This section will be updated as on when the Ryzen 6000 platform is launched. After that, we can share more info on the new and updated designs for 2022. Full-size laptops with AMD Ryzen 9 6980HX / 6900HX/ 5900HX / 4900H 45+W hardware This section encompasses the details of the full-size notebooks that are built on the 45+W Ryzen 9 5900HX and 4900H hardware platforms. Most of the AMD-based budget as well as mid-tier gaming laptops like the Legion 5, Legion 5 Pro, and Nitro are now equipped with the Ryzen 9 processors. They are available with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H/ AMD Ryzen 7 4800H configurations. Many of Schenker, Eluktronics, XMG and Aftershock models are based on TongFang and Clevo barebone designs and are not available with Ryzen 9 5900HX processors during this update. This is most probably due to allotment shortages with the existing world situation. The same would improve in the coming few months. Specifically, I am looking for a Ryzen 9 configuration of the Prometheus 17 model and the 150+W RTX 3080 GPU, which is presently the most efficient AMD notebook configuration. Few of these models also contain a MUX (highlighted in the below table when available), that shows a huge difference in games. Though the majority of these Rzeyn notebooks come with Nvidia graphics, few models are presently available with AMD’s Radeon RX 6000M mobile graphics built on RDNA2.
