How to Solve and Fix USB Device Not Recognized in Windows 10

Fixing USB device detection issues is no easy task. There are a wide variety of vendors out there, and Microsoft cannot check every one of them. Microsoft improved the device driver issues with Windows Vista onwards. Vista onwards, you can only install drivers which has a digital signature. This ensured quality and stability of the Operating system. Sadly though, the issues persist in Windows 10. In this post, I will be talking about how to solve and fix USB device not recognized in Windows 10.

Step 1: Shut-down the PC and perform a “Power Drain.” Detach all power cables and batteries (In case if its “User Replaceable”) and keep the power button pressed for a couple of seconds. Keep the USB cables detached as well.

Step 2: Restart the PC, and boot into Windows 10 desktop.

Step 3: Reconnect the USB cable. Ensure that the wire is not loose, and is firmly attached to both ends of the device and PC.

Step 4: Swap for another USB cable to check if the problem persists.

Step 5: Try a different USB port if available.

Step 6: Go-to device manager. Start+X > Device Manager

Step 7: Click Scan for Hardware changes from device manager. See Image below:

Step 8:  Try to use Windows update to update the drivers. See image below

Step 9: Double Click Open all USB Root Hub’s and “Un-check” the option which says “Allow this computer to turn off the device to save power ”

Step 10: if this issue persists to all USB devices and not just one, reinstall the USB root hub. Right Click and Uninstall Root Hub and Restart the PC.
