How to Resolve and Fix UltraNav Trackpoint and Touchpad Issues

Most of the Trackpad issues are either related to the software/drivers or due to low quality hardware. It could also be simply due to the presence of particles or moisture on the trackpad. The trackpoint is specific to the IBM/Lenovo Notebook PC’s which are not normally found on other competitor devices. In this post I am going to talk about how to resolve and fix UltraNav Trackpoint and Touchpad Issues.

Step by Step Troubleshooting to Resolve Touchpad issues:

Step 1: Check the EFI/BIOS Settings to verify:

1. Turn on the Power button on your ThinkPad
2. Press F1 a couple of times to enter the EFI System Setup
3. Use Arrow Keys to select the Config menu and then Keyboard/Mouse
4. Now, Check to verify and ensure that both TrackPoint and TouchPad are set to Enabled.
5. In order to save and exit, Press F10, and then press the enter on your keyboard to select yes to Save configuration “changes and exit now“

Step : 2 Check that your touchpad is enabled from the settings option.

1. Use a mouse or keyboard to Click the Start () menu to Go-to Settings.
2. Then Go-To Devices and Select the Sub-Menu “Mouse & Touchpad“
3. Click to Select and Open the option which says “Additional Mouse Options“
4. Check and verify if the Touchpad Option is enabled or not.
5. Click on the Settings option and check for sensitivity settings.
6. Ensure you have Light Touch settings in order to make the touchpad more responsive.

Step: 3: Check the Device Drivers from the device manager to see the device is installed.

1. Click the Start () menu and Search to find “Device Manager“
2. Open Device Manager and Search for “Pointing Devices“
3. Ensure that the Synaptics Pointing device is installed.
