How to Transfer Contacts From a Nokia Lumia Windows Phone to Android

If you are someone who is looking to transfer your Windows Phone contacts to Android then you have come to the right place. But, before we delve into the details, let us make one thing very clear. Windows Phones are great devices with an innovative intuitive experience for all users. Now that we put across our perspective, let’s get right into our topic of discussion. In order to Transfer Contacts From a Nokia Lumia Windows Phone to Android, there are many methods. In this post, we are going to talk about the methods that we tried out. Hopefully, it works for you as well.

Steps To Transfer Contacts From a Nokia Lumia Windows Phone

Just like Android Phones, where you need a Google account to activate it, same is the case with Windows Phones. The only difference is that you activate a Windows phone (or Mobile 10) with a Microsoft account. It could be a Hotmail, Live or an Outlook.com account. Unless you are using multiple accounts, most of your contacts would be stored in your windows account itself. Follow the steps below that we have outlined to directly import them into your Google account.

Step 1: Go to https://contacts.google.com/preview and sign in with your Google Account. Use the same account for which you have activated your Android phone.

Alternatively, you can access your contacts from Gmail, by clicking on Gmail>Contacts (Top Left-hand corner)

Step 2: From the left-hand menu drop down, click on “Import“. Click more if you don’t see the “Import” option.

Step 3: For this example, Click on Outlook.com from the list of options. See below:

Step 4: Click to Accept the terms and then type in your Microsoft account “Username/Password”. Once done, it takes a couple of seconds to complete the import process.

Note: Even though the menu says Outlook.com contacts, it works fine with Hotmail or Live accounts as well.

Once the import is finished, you can merge and fix all the contacts. This ensures that your contacts are free of duplicate entries.

Second Method To Transfer Contacts From a Nokia Lumia Windows Phone

This method is not very straightforward like the first one. There are no direct integrations and Outlook or Hotmail web does not allow you to export your contacts. So the only way around this is to use Outlook mail client as an intermediary app to help you export your contacts.

 If you do not have an Outlook Client application installed, ignore this step. If you do, read along.

Before following any of these steps, ensure that you have properly configured your Outlook client with your Microsoft account. Once ensured, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Outlook, if not already opened. Go to File|Options|Advanced

Step 2: From the section under Export, select |Export

Step 3: From the Import & Export wizard, Click |Export to a File|Next

Step 4: Under “Create a File of Type” menu, select comma separated values (CSV)

Step 5: Select the contact folder under your email account that you wish to export

Step 6: Choose the desired location and save the file on your desktop computer.

Step 7: Open the exported CSV file to check the contents.

Step 8: Head over to the old Google Contacts page https://www.google.com/contacts. The new preview site for Google contacts does not support import from file option yet!

Step 9:  Click on “Choose File” and select the CSV file that you exported and click “Import”

Step 10: That should be it. Check all your imported contacts to see if they are all in place.
