However, there is small number of users are reporting issues on various online forums about this error message and in this post, I am going to talk about How to Resolve and Fix Error “something happened 0x80070002 – 0x20016”

An Alternate error message which you can get:

Setup couldn't start properly. "Please reboot your PC and try running Windows 10 Setup again"

Before proceeding, ensure you unplug all the USB devices and external Disk drives. Proceed with minimal configuration like a mouse & a keyboard.

Do this only if you are comfortable with the Windows Registry

Press Windows Key+X in order to click on the Run Menu option.
Under Run>Type “regedit” or “regedit32.exe“
Find your way and navigate to to following Registry path

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionWindowsUpdateOSUpgrade

On the right hand side,

Right Click>New>DWORD (32-bit) value 4

Rename the new value that you have created to the following:

AllowOSUpgrade
Set Value=1 with Hexadecimal

For Windows Registry edits, You do not need to click on save button. Close the Registry Editor and restart the upgrade process and you should be good to go.
