How to Setup Dlink DSL 2730 U Router for Airtel Broadband

Airtel is one of the leading broadband Internet providers in India with a good presence across all metropolitan cities. When you sign-up for their broadband services, Airtel would also provide you with a broadband router for free. A lot of these users have received the Dlink DSL 2730U router which is both an A-DSL, as well as a WiFi router. In this post, I am going to talk about how to setup Dlink DSL 2730 U Router for Airtel Broadband.

Step 1: Connect the DSL and LAN Cables (Setup Dlink DSL 2730 U Router for Airtel Broadband)

Ensure that all the relevant cables are connected to the back of the broadband modem. When you are trying to setup the modem for the first time, you would need to use a LAN cable provided to connect directly to any one of the 4 available ports (Not the Yellow Port marked as “Internet“). Ensure that the DSL connection from the splitter is connected to the back of the modem (RJ 11 Jack).

Step 2: Login to the D-Link login page

In order to Setup the Dlink DSL 2730 U Router for Airtel Broadband final steps, Once all the wires are connected, use a Laptop or a Desktop computer and open a browser of your choice. Note: All Tier 1 browsers are supported, for example, IE, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Chrome etc. On the opened browser window, type in the following:

http://192.168.1.1

If the Login page does not come up, check your IP settings by doing the following step:

Open Command Prompt (For Windows)

Type: ipconfig (Ensure default gateway of 192.168.1.1)

Once the D-Link login page loads up, type in the username and password to login into the broadband modem settings. Use the following Username and password.

• Username: admin (No Caps)
• Password: “Your Airtel Customer Number“

Contact Airtel Customer care @121 if unsure about the Customer Number

Once you are logged in, go to the “Setup” menu and start the Installation Wizard. See image below:

Airtel Broadband Settings:

While configuring the VCI (Virtual Circuit), you need to give VPI Value = 1 and VCI = 32. DSL link type is : ppoe

The PPP (Point to Point Protocol) Username and password are necessary for you to authenticate with your Airtel service provider. You would need to call the customer care to find out your username and generate a password to authenticate.

Typically, your username is your broadband phone number@airtelbroadband.in and your password is randomly generated by the technical support executive. Once you enter the details and finish the Wizard, you should be able to see the Status as “Connected” under the “Status Section” of your top menu.
