List of Mesh shader-supported GPUs from AMD and Nvidia

List of Mesh shader-supported GPUs from AMD and Nvidia

In this article, we have a list of Mesh shader-supported GPUs from AMD and Nvidia. Mesh shaders are an advanced feature in modern graphics processing units (GPUs) that provide a more flexible and efficient approach to geometry processing. This technology, which is part of the DirectX 12 Ultimate and Vulkan APIs, allows for more complex and detailed graphics in real-time rendering, which is especially beneficial in gaming and professional graphics applications.

Here’s a brief overview of the types of GPUs that typically support mesh shaders:

  1. NVIDIA GPUs: NVIDIA has incorporated mesh shader capabilities starting with the Turing architecture (RTX 20 series) and continuing with the Ampere (RTX 30 series) and any subsequent architectures.
  2. AMD GPUs: AMD introduced mesh shader support with its RDNA 2 architecture, which is found in the RX 6000 series GPUs.
  3. Intel GPUs: Certain newer Intel integrated GPUs, particularly those accompanying the latest generation of Intel Core processors, also offer mesh shader support, though this can vary based on the specific model and capabilities.

Presently, mesh shaders are only supported by NVIDIA Turing GPUs (i.e., GeForce RTX 20 Series, GeForce GTX 16 Series). AMD RDNA2 GPUs will also support mesh shaders. To check the support of mesh shaders, you can look at the existence of the GL_NV_mesh_shader extension in either OpenGL or the VK_NV_mesh_shader device extension in Vulkan. The mesh shading pipeline substitutes the standard VTG pipeline (VTG stands for Vertex / Tessellation / Geometry).
