How to Reset and Reinstall Edge in Windows 10

Microsoft Edge is the latest browser for the Windows 10 operating system. The browser brings in new features like writing or typing directly on web pages using an electronic pen. While the browser is promising, there are quite a lot of end users in the community complaining about long browser load time or will not load at all. On the other hand, IE 11 loads just fine. In these situations, it is advisable to reset your browser. In this post I am going to talk about how to reset and reinstall Edge in Windows 10.

Steps to Reinstall and Repair Edge Browser:
  1. Clear all browsing data.
  2. Click Start>Type & Open Run>Type or Copy Paste the following:
    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe

  3. Open the folder, Select All the contents and Delete everything inside this folder.
  4. Close All Windows and go back to the Start Menu.
  5. Click Start>Type Windows Powershell>Right click on Windows Powershell and select Run as administrator.
  6. Copy and paste the following command.
    Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml" –Verbose}
  7. Re-run Microsoft Edge and look for performance improvements.

Warning: You will loose all User settings when you Reset Edge Settings. Resetting Edge will also reset security settings, privacy settings and the list of Trusted Sites. Other settings like parental control settings may also be affected.
