Recently, MediaTek launched the Helio P30 processor. A couple of months before we have seen the launch of Helio X30 processor designed for the premium smartphones and tablets. But now MediaTek has offered two options for the mid-range segment of smartphones. In today’s post, we are going to compare the MediaTek Helio P30 vs Helio X30.

Both the processors are from the same manufacturer, but they differ regarding performance and price. Helio X30 is among the first wave of smartphone processors with 10nm fabrication process. It features a deca-core design spanning over the three clusters. Dual-core ARM Cortex-A73 with clock speeds up to 2.6GHz, quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 with clock speed up to 2.2GHz and quad-core ARM Cortex-A35 up to 1.9GHz.

Helio X30 is the successor of the Helio X20 and MediaTek claims 35% increment in performance and up to 50% more power saving over the Helio X20.
Talking about the Helio P30, it is designed for camera centric devices. It is built on the 16mn FinFET fabrication process. It is a quad-core processor having two clusters. Four Cortex A53 clocked at 2.3 GHz, and four Cortex A53 clocked at 1.65 GHz. So concerning performance, Helio X30 wins over the Helio P30.
MediaTek Helio X30 uses PowerVR GT7400 Plus clocked at 800 MHz while the Helio P30 includes Mali-G71MP2 clocked at 950 MHz. GPU unit in the Helio X30 is way better than the GPU used in Helio P30. You will get better gaming performance and animations in the MediaTek Helio X30.
Coming to the camera capability, Helio P30 despite being lower in price gives tough competition to the Helio X30. Both the processor support up to 16 MP + 16 MP dual camera with CCU + VPU. If you are looking for a photographic device in affordable price Helio P30 will be the better option for you.
Coming to the memory support, Helio P30 supports maximum up to 6 GB 32-bit dual channel @1600 MHz LPDDR4X RAM, while the Helio X30 supports up to 8 GB 16-bit quad-channel @ 1866 MHz LPDDR4X RAM. So for the high-end phones, Helio X30 is the best bet.
Both the processors come with the intelligent task scheduling and thermal management for optimum performance. Helio X30 supports the maximum display resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels while the Helio P30 stuck at 2160 x 1080 pixels. Both the processor support Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi a/b/g/n/ac. For fast charging, both the processors come with MediaTek Pump Express 3.0 technology.
Helio X30 features 3x carrier aggregation and 4G LTE-advanced world-mode modem that delivers up to 450 Mbps speed downstream and 150 Mbps speed upstream. While The Helio P30 features 2×2 carrier aggregation, thereby providing the speed of 300 Mbps downstream and 150 Mbps upstream speed.
Overall the MediaTek Helio X30 is the clear winner here if we compare the on paper specs and performance. But when it comes to pricing, Helio P30 is a good option. Helio P30 is designed to provide the high-end performance in medium price segment phones, while the Helio X30 is designed for the premium phones where performance is the principal factor.
MediaTek’s sees a lot of opportunity in the emerging markets like India and China. Affordability and low cost is the key to success in these markets. This is exactly what MediaTek is targeting with their new SOC’s. We hope to see some exciting new devices on the market soon.
