What is Dolby Atmos?
If you are wondering, what is Dolby Atmos Sound, let me clarify you first. Dolby Atmos Sound for mobile adapts the premier cinema sound experience to create compelling and moving audio over the built-in portable speakers and headphones.
The Dolby Atmos processor on the device converts the audio into three-dimensional virtual space and sends it to the headphones or its built-in load speakers. Dolby Atmos works with any pair of headphones and can be custom-tuned to get the sound quality that you are willing to hear.
Dolby Atmos Sound significantly improves the sound of music, games, and television. You will get the crisper dialogue and maximized sound without distortion.
If we wanted to do justice in explaining in-depth about Dolby Atmos, even a high-level explanation would require a full article. So, we will list out what outlines the tech.
- Released by Dolby Labs in 2012, the tech allows you to add spatial metadata (Location, automation data in real-time) of up to 128 tracks.
- The audio tracks are assigned to audio channels for distribution
- The audio is dynamically encoded to the speakers in real-time based on the system capability.
- Dolby Labs recommend an 11 speaker setup. A traditional 5.1 or 7.1 system can render these sounds using a 7.1.4 or 7.1.2 configuration.
- A 24.1.10 is the maximum speaker configuration that a Dolby Atmos Home theatre supports.
- For Headphones, the sounds are rendered dynamically using software encoding to create a 3D immersive sound experience.
Here is an example of a 7.1.4 Home Theatre setup below:

The encoded software experience is what you will be getting through these Dolby Atmos-certified Android phones. The experience is not the same, but you will get a more luxurious sound experience than comparable mobile phone’s audio outputs.
If you an avid listener of music or consider yourself an audiophile, the sound experience is the foremost thing you should be looking for in a smartphone. In this post, we will try to help you choose the best ones. Here we have picked the best Android smartphones with Dolby Atmos audio experience.

<2018 List>
Here in the 2018 list, we have some of the top-rated phones with Dolby atmos released in 2018. Check them out below:
Lenovo K8 Note
[button_link size=”large” src=”https://amzn.to/2tXjYQV”]Buy from Amazon[/button_link]
Lenovo K8 Note is a bit older now compared to the new thin-bezel phones out there in the market. But if you are more concerned about the high-quality audio rather than design, this one is for you. It is the cheapest yet good quality smartphone that offers you the Dolby Atmos audio enhancement. It packs a 5.5 inches full HD display having 401 PPI density and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Out of the box, it runs on Android Nougat 7.1.1
It is available in two variants 3 GB RAM with 32 GB internal and second one with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB inbuilt storage. It is a dual-SIM smartphone that houses a dedicated micro SD card slot to let you further expand the storage up to 256 GB. To give you smooth multitasking and lag-free gaming it packs MediaTek Helio X23 2.3 GHz deca-core processor.
Back in 2017, it was the first phone in its price category to feature the dual camera on the rear side that consists of 13 MP primary and a 5 MP depth-sensing camera. The front gets a 13 MP camera with LED flash. Picture quality is excellent in its class, nothing significant to complain about. Lenovo K8 Note receives a fingerprint scanner on the rear side and a 4000 mAh battery to keep you going all day long.
Display | 5.5 inches IPS LCD 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution 401 PPI density 16:9 aspect ratio 71.1% screen to body ratio |

Sensors | Fingerprint, compass, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, |
Others | Dolby Atmos audio enhancement Bluetooth 4.2 |

Battery | 4000 mAh |
Lenovo K8 Plus
[button_link size=”large” src=”http://fkrt.it/YLnmS2NNNN”]Buy from Amazon[/button_link]
Lenovo K8 Plus looks same like the above, K8 Note. There is not much that has changed internally and externally on both the phones. If you want a compact phone, Lenovo K8 Plus is a better option. It has a 5.2 inches full HD display having 424 PPI density and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It also runs on the Android Nougat 7.1.1 and packs a 4000 mAh battery. But due to relatively smaller display and more efficient processor, it will last a bit longer than the Lenovo K8 Note.
It packs MediaTek Helio P25 octa-core 2.5 GHz processor coupled with Mali-T880MP2 GPU. It is available in two variants, 3 GB RAM and 4 GB RAM. Both the options provide 32 GB internal storage and a dedicated card slot to use up to 128 GB micro SD card. Talking about the camera, it has got a 13 MP + 5 MP camera on the rear side with dual-LED flash and an 8 MP camera on the front. But Lenovo K8 Plus misses the front flash and has a less megapixel camera on the front. It also gets Dolby Atmos sound enhancement for the cinematic type audio experience right on your smartphone.
Now, some of you might be confused between this one (Lenovo K8 Plus) and the above one (Lenovo K8 Note). They feature almost similar specifications and comes at the same price. If you want a compact phone and you are good with 5.2 inches display, buy Lenovo K8 Plus. And for everything else, choose the Lenovo K8 Note.
Display | 5.2 inches IPS LCD 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution 424 PPI density 16:9 aspect ratio 68.4% screen to body ratio |
CPU | MediaTek MT6757 Helio P25 Octa-core (4×2.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.4 GHz Cortex-A53) |
GPU | Mali-T880MP2 |
RAM | 3/4 GB RAM |
Storage | 32 GB, microSD up to 128 GB (dedicated slot) |
Rear Camera | Dual: 13 MP (f/2.0, PDAF) + 5 MP (depth sensor), dual-LED flash |
Front Camera | 8 MP |
Operating System | Android Nougat 7.1.1 |
Sensors | Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, Fingerprint, compass |
Others | Aluminum body Dolby Atmos sound enhancement Bluetooth 4.2 |
Weight | 165 grams |
Battery | 4000 mAh |
Samsung Galaxy A6 (2018)
Samsung Galaxy A6 is the budget smartphone that features a 5.6 inches HD Super AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 294 PPI density. The colors and brightness on display are good. The bezels are thin, which results in 75% screen to body ratio. But lack of full HD display is still disappointing and counts as a major con of this smartphone. It is equipped with Exynos 7870 Octa-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A53. It comes in two variants which are 3 GB RAM with 32 GB internal and 4 GB RAM with 64 GB internal. Storage will never be an issue with Galaxy A6 as it has a dedicated card slot that supports up to 256 GB micro SD card.
One thing that I like the most about this phone is the camera. Though it misses out on a dual-camera setup on the rear, still the 16 MP camera on the back does a pretty good job. For great selfies and high-quality video calling, it has a 16 MP camera on the front with LED flash so that selfies will be great even in low light. It has got Dolby Atmos sound, but it will be functional on the headphones and speakers that you connect via 3.5 mm audio jack.
Out of the box, it runs on Android 8.0 Oreo and also has NFC. On the rear side, you will see a fingerprint scanner, which is common these days. The next thing is face-detection, and sadly, the Galaxy A6 does not come with any face unlock feature. It comes with a 3000 mAh battery which gives the average backup. But who is satisfied with just average. The increasing usage and dependency of humans on the smartphone requires more battery backup.
Display | 5.6 inches Super AMOLED 720 x 1480 pixels resolution 294 PPI density 18:9 aspect ratio 75.0% screen to body ratio |
CPU | Exynos 7870 Octa Octa-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A53 |
GPU | Mali-T830 MP1 |
RAM | 3/4 GB |
Storage | 32/64 GB, expandable up to 256 GB (dedicated slot) |
Rear Camera | 16 MP (f/1.7), PDAF, LED flash |
Front Camera | 16 MP (f/1.9), LED flash |
Operating System | Android 8.0 (Oreo) |
Sensors | Accelerometer, Fingerprint, gyro, proximity, compass |
Others | Dolby Atmos sound (headphones only) Bluetooth 4.2 NFC |
Weight | 159 g |
Battery | 3000 mAh |
Samsung Galaxy A6+ (2018)
Samsung Galaxy A6+ looks impressive and packs powerful hardware. It features a 6 inches full HD Super AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Out of the box, it runs on Android Oreo 8.0 and powered by a 3500 mAh. It is one of the most massive phones among the big display smartphones. As far as the camera is concerned, it has dual 16 MP + 5 MP camera setup on the rear side and a 24 MP selfie shooter camera with LED flash. This smartphone will surely attract smartphone camera enthusiasts.
Everything is excellent on the phone except the processor. Don’t get me wrong, the Snapdragon 450 used in this smartphone is decent but not for the phones of this price range. The Snapdragon 636 processor or something equivalent or more would have been great. Anyways, moving ahead, you get the option to choose from the 3 GB RAM with 32 GB and 4 GB RAM with 64 GB internal storage capacity. Also, a dedicated card slot will always have you back when you need more space. Overall, it has an excellent camera, Dolby Atmos sound, high-quality display, and durable build-quality.
Display | 6.0 inches Super AMOLED 1080 x 2220 pixels resolution 411 PPI density 18:9 aspect ratio 75.3% screen to body ratio |
CPU | Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 |
GPU | Adreno 506 |
RAM | 3/4 GB |
Storage | 32/64 GB, microSD up to 256 GB (dedicated slot) |
Rear Camera | Dual: 16 MP (f/1.7, PDAF) + 5 MP (f/1.9, no AF, depth sensor) |
Front Camera | 24 MP (f/1.9), LED flash |
Operating System | Android 8.0 (Oreo) |
Sensors | Accelerometer, gyro, Fingerprint, proximity, compass |
Others | Dolby Atmos sound (headphones only) Bluetooth 4.2 NFC |
Weight | 191 grams |
Battery | 3500 mAh |
Samsung Galaxy A8 Star (A9 Star)
Samsung Galaxy A8 Star is a mid-range smartphone that features a large 6.3 inches full HD Super AMOLED display. It has 18:9 ratio display with thin bezels that takes up the body to screen ratio of the phone to 80.6%. Despite having thin bezels, this smartphone feels very big and weighs around 191 grams. It is great for those looking for a big display smartphone. It is loaded with Android 8.0 (Oreo) and powered by Snapdragon 660 processor. It packs 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal storage. You can further add up to 512 GB micro SD card, but for that, you have to use the SIM 2 slot.
Smartphone cameras have evolved a lot over the past years. The camera setup that Samsung Galaxy A8 Star (A9 Star) features is praiseworthy. It has a dual 24 MP + 16 MP camera on the rear side. The rear camera can record video at 2160p at 30 fps. The one on the front is a 24 MP camera that can record in 1080p at 60 fps. This phone has got Dolby Atmos sound which will work only on the headphones and speakers, but not on the built-in smartphone speakers. Moreover, Samsung Galaxy A8 Star has Bluetooth 5.0, which is way better than Bluetooth 4.2 and earlier regarding speed and coverage.
Just a little suggestion, if you are thinking of buying the Samsung Galaxy A6+, I would recommend you to invest a bit more and get this one (Galaxy A8 Star). Samsung Galaxy A8 Star is better in every aspect as compared to the Samsung Galaxy A6+, and the price difference is not much.
Display | 6.3 inches Super AMOLED 1080 x 2220 pixels resolution 392 PPI density 18:9 aspect ratio 80.6% screen to body ratio |
CPU | Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Octa-core (4×2.2 GHz Kryo 260 & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 260) |

Razer Phone is a gaming-oriented smartphone. It features an industry-leading 5.7 inches IGZO IPS LCD with 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution at 515 PPI density. It runs on Android 7.1.1 ( Nougat) out of the box and could be upgraded to Android 8.1 (Oreo). Though it is not running on the Qualcomm’s best processor till date, the SD 835 is not much behind in the race. Snapdragon 835 is the Qualcomm’s second-best processor in production till date. The processor is coupled with 8 GB of RAM that makes it a powerful machine to run any game or multiple apps at the same time without any lag or hang issue.
To store all your memories, it has 64 GB of inbuilt storage. If all that got full, add a micro SD card up to 512 GB in the dedicated card slot, and you will have massive room. As far as the camera is concerned, Razer phone won’t disappoint you. A dual 12 MP + 12 MP camera on the rear allows you to capture the DSLR like images and an 8 MP camera on the front takes care of the selfies and vlogs very well.
But the main things for which Razer phone is praised for is the smartphone audio. Whether you connect headphones or listen to the phone speakers, it is one of the best sounding smartphones. It has got THX-certified amplifiers and dual Dolby Atmos speakers on the front. It has a Type-C port and no 3.5 mm jack. But you will get a Type-C to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter in the sales package. A 4000 mAh battery powers it, and it supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+. Razer phone is a feature-rich gaming smartphone that takes entertainment to a whole new level.
